Pull

There are a great many number of bands who came unstuck on Dinosaur Junior’s autistic guitars or on Pavement first albums’ crooked pop. So that today, calling on the spirit of these two bands would instantaneously deserve a big clout.

And yet there was a miracle in Bordeaux! pull’s hometown’clubs and bars have already knelt down to these three greenhorns (David, Julien, Hugo) on the occasion of decibels overwhelmed memorable gigs.

Their first album “sacred monkey” establishes the band thanks to a freshness we thought lost for indie power pop. Full of short, angry and coarse tracks (“Fire”, “Clean up”, “TV slag”,…), of crude mid tempo (“Revolution”, “Slice”) and of touching songs (“The bee”, “Everything ended here”) pull’s record shows an healthy profusion typical from Ben Lee’s “Grandpaw would” or Butterglory’s works.

Even with a rough technique, they allow themselves everything they like and it works! vocal harmonies on “Sub”, strings arrangements on “Is that you”.

Far from Weezer’s enormous productions, “sacred monkey” favours spontaneity : each rehearsal gives birth to ten new tracks which will be played in concerts the next week and recorded at the week end on some friend’s recorder.

From the 4- tracks tape to the analogic 8- tracks, from the cellar where they rehearse to the local record dealer’s back shop, they would use any means to record a track.

With such a creative energy, it was hard to put less than 21 titles on their first album. To listen to the rest, you’ll need to see them on stage.
