After a few years spent learning music and playing in different bands ( rock, reggae, folk, as composer and interpreter, guitars and vocals), Yvi Slan started composing electronic music in the mid-90s.
In 2000 and 2001, he released a couple of LPs with Tot.al Records continuing his live performances (Mix-Move, Transmusicales de Rennes, Bamako…). In April 2001, he received the "Découverte du Printemps de Bourges" award.
He has recently joined the Platinum team, bringing his very own style with "knock out" to be released in January 2003.
"Knock out" is definitely a pop album, with an intimist atmosphere, and totally new compared to recent squeaky clean electronic releases.
"Knock out" drools, cracks, it gets you dancing like a crab (cf Cocktails), the snaire drum rolls pile up (cf the vocals caricature the french/english lyrics (cf Good time).
The cheap computer bug is drowned out by the chance reverberations, offering a peek of the machine itself (cf Etrange loop). Garage guitars (cf A la poursuite de Slan) or flowering guitars (cf Knock out) or sexy guitars (Exquise sauterelle) or even bizarre guitars (cf Aboulie), and guitars who’s wrong notes are just right.
Yvi Slan has his eyes wide open and dances (cf RS9V2) his way through his very own dream with his ghosts (cf my bb told me) and his castles in the sky (cf Songe creux) whist, awaiting the ultimate K.O
Style of music : 100% Boombop, it’s his own definition !
Apart from the dancefloor, Yvi Slan’s other activities include sound illustration for websites (Elixirstudio, Uploading from New York, E.M.I, …), videos and plays.
